Apples Pears Blue draws from the Papiers Découpés tradition pioneered by Matisse, reimagining familiar fruit forms through bold, flat colour and clean-cut silhouettes. The blue tones carry a vivid, almost electric quality, placed in dynamic tension with the surrounding composition. Rather than depicting fruit naturalistically, the work reduces it to essential shape and rhythm — organic, joyful, and deliberately two-dimensional. The interplay between positive and negative space is as considered as any brushstroke, making this a work of graphic intelligence as much as botanical reference.
